1. How the Town Got Its Name

One of the things that people often wonder about Pigeon Forge is how the town got its name. Well, to properly answer this question, we are going to break it down into two parts. The first part of the name comes from the Little Pigeon River, which runs throughout the city. The river was named after the hundreds of passenger pigeons that once roosted on the banks of the river. The second part of the name comes from an iron forge that was built way back in 1817. The forge can still be seen today near The Old Mill Square. 

2. Number of Permanent Residents 

If you have ever been to Pigeon Forge TN, you might be surprised to find out that there are only about 7,000 permanent residents. However, the town welcomes millions of visitors throughout the year who want to check out the mountain views and all the incredible things to do. 3. Easily Accessible

Did you know that Pigeon Forge is one of the most accessible cities in the country? In fact, two-thirds of the nation’s population that lives east of the Mississippi is within a day’s drive of the city. Pigeon Forge is centrally located just 33 miles southeast of Knoxville, and also just five miles north of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This makes it easy for guests to explore the trails and still have plenty of time left in the day to hang out in Pigeon Forge. 4. Incredible History 

When you visit Pigeon Forge, you can learn a ton about the history of the Smoky Mountains. One of the most historic places in town is The Old Mill. The mill was built in 1830 and it was used to power the electricity for the entire city until 1935. Its amazing impact on the town is one of the reasons why it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
